Type of existing surface to be covered with resin bound layer
A typical base for resin bound stone driveway, whether new or existing, can include tarmac or concrete. Each requires a slightly different approach, and the quality of the existing surface has a significant influence on the quote. In most cases, our new resin and aggregate blend can be positioned straight over the existing surface – as long as it is solid!
Please note that surfaces covered with paving type products such as block paving, sets or flags are not suitable for a resin bound system.
Preparation
This is about the preparation: what kind of surface are we going to work with? What is the state of it? Is it going to require a severe amount of prep, or can we begin with resin almost straight away? Are we going to have to spend some time removing the existing surface? If yes, how much do we estimate this to take? Are there any areas that require additional levelling, like considerable potholes or cracks? Is there any edging to be done (for example paving slabs, bricks or wood)? How easy is the access to the area? Is the shape of the space in question straight forward or a bit more challenging – all shapes and sizes can be covered with a resin bound surface, it all just requires an appropriate amount of planning.

Type of the resin bound aggregate – what does it mean?
Resin bound system results in a flat, long-lasting, smooth surface with no loose stones. This is achieved by mixing chosen stones with appropriate resin before application. However the stones may not only have various colours, but they can also have different sizes as well. The choice depends on the type of finish you are after, and there is 1 - 2mm in size to a 10mm aggregate on offer. The choice of the size of stone influences the final depth of the area, which means it can be (typically) from 12mm to 25mm.
Here comes the sun: the UV factor in the cost of your resin bound driveway
Another decision to make is to choose whether you wish your resin bond surface to be UV stable or not. This means asking yourself whether potential discolouration of the mixture is an important factor in your project, as major non UV resins will turn yellow-ish in time. Of course, this may not be a factor for you at all. If that is the case, this may be a potential source of savings which you may want to direct towards another item on your project’s budget (edging, for instance).
